Saturday’s Asahi, Mainichi, and Nikkei wrote that Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno told reporters on Friday that German Chancellor Scholz will visit Japan on April 28-29 for talks with Prime Minister Kishida. Nikkei quoted Matsuno as saying that Germany is an important partner for Japan and that Tokyo hopes the chancellor’s visit will further strengthen the ties between the two nations. Yomiuri wrote that the government of Germany also announced Scholz’s visit to Japan. The paper wrote that the two leaders are expected to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and how to strengthen the ties between their nations. The chancellor is also scheduled to deliver a speech at a business-related event in Tokyo. The dailies noted that this will be Scholz’s first visit to Japan since taking office in December.
