On April 24, the Ginowan police in Okinawa Prefecture arrested a 21-year-old U.S. Marine Corps corporal affiliated with Camp Hansen on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a standard-sized car while inebriated. The suspect denied the charge, saying, “I did not drink any alcoholic beverages.” A breathalyzer test indicated a level of alcohol three times the legal limit.

The allegation is that around 1:24 a.m. on April 24, the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol on National Road 58 in the Makiminato district, Urasoe City.

According to the police, a patrol car stopped the Marine’s car on the suspicion he was speeding. The police smelled alcohol on his breath and subsequently arrested him.
