Kishida to speak by phone with Ukrainian leader tonight

NTV reported that arrangements are underway for Prime Minister Kishida to hold a teleconference with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy tonight. In a related story, NTV and Fuji TV reported on a video posted on the official Twitter account of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry showing a list of countries for which a Ukrainian military commander voiced gratitude for their assistance in efforts to defeat the invading Russian forces, noting that that Japan was not included in the list. Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno reportedly commented on the omission by saying: “I suspect that appreciation was expressed in the context of military assistance.” While noting that the GOJ has asked Kyiv to clarify the message, Matsuno said the Ukrainian government has already conveyed its appreciation for Japan’s support.
