Japan protests South Korea’s plan to survey Takeshima Islands

Mainichi, Nikkei, and Sankei wrote that Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno told reporters on Wednesday that South Korea’s plan to conduct a geographical survey of the Takeshima Islands and the surrounding area is extremely regrettable and that Japan has lodged a protest with South Korea through diplomatic channels and the South Korean foreign ministry official accompanying a delegation sent by South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol to Tokyo. Matsuno reiterated that the Takeshima Islands are Japan’s inherent territory in light of historical facts and international law.
