On May 1, Motegi Toshimitsu, the Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party, held in check the “All Okinawa” forces who oppose the Kishida government’s relocation project of U.S. Marines Corps Air Station Futenma to Nago’s Henoko district (Ginowan City) in a stump speech he delivered in Chatan Town. He pointed to the challenging security environment facing Japan and stressed resolve to win in the Upper House election to be held this summer. He also referred to the gubernatorial election to be held on Sept. 11 and said that “we cannot leave the future of the country and Okinawa in the hands of the opposition camp and All Okinawa.” (Abridged)
