On April 28, the Youth Division of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) announced that Division Director Ogura Masanobu and four other division executives will visit Taiwan on May 3-7. They will pay a courtesy call on President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice President William Lai, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu to discuss economic and security relations between Japan and Taiwan.
The Youth Division sends its executives and a study group to Taiwan every year [in principle], but the visit has not taken place for the past three years due to COVID-19. The delegation plans to make a visit to the grave of former President Lee Teng-hui and to the site of the Kishida kimono shop, which Prime Minister Kishida Fumio’s great-grandfather Ikutaro ran in Keelung in northern Taiwan.
