On May 4, the Urasoe police in Okinawa Prefecture arrested a 21-year-old U.S. Marine Corps lance corporal on the spot on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a car while inebriated. The suspect reportedly denies the charge.

The allegation is that around 6:20 a.m. on May 4, the suspect was driving a vehicle while inebriated on National Road 58 in the Gusukuma district, Urasoe City. The suspect’s vehicle struck the median strip while heading north. A breathalyzer indicated the amount of alcohol on the suspect’s breath was above the legal limit (0.15 mg/liter of exhalation). [The suspect’s name has been redacted.]
