Chinese aircraft continue takeoff and landing drills on flattop south of Okinawa

On May 16, the Defense Ministry (MOD)’s Joint Staff Office announced that it had confirmed on May 15 that helicopters and fighters had been taking off from and landing on the Chinese Navy’s aircraft carrier Liaoning, which is deployed south of Ishigakijima, Okinawa. The takeoff and landing drills started on May 3 and lasted for ten consecutive days. After one day, the exercises resumed on May 14. According to the MOD, the carrier sailed on May 15 with two guided-missile destroyers about 350 kilometers south of Okidaitojima. The takeoff and landing drills took place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
