Two Chinese frigates transit Tsushima Strait

On May 23, the Defense Ministry announced that it had confirmed that two PLA Navy frigates transited the Tsushima Strait. One vessel sailed through waters about 260 kilometers west of Fukuejima, Nagasaki, at around 1 p.m. on May 22. The other vessel sailed through waters about 120 kilometers southwest of Tsushima at around 7 a.m. on May 23. Both vessels sailed toward the Sea of Japan.


On May 23, a Chinese guided missile destroyer sailed through waters between the main island of Okinawa and Miyakojima and headed toward the Pacific Ocean. None of the vessels intruded into Japan’s territorial waters.
