Quad members agree to step up cooperation on 5G, semiconductors, satellite data

Mainichi reported on the agreement reached at the Quad summit on Tuesday to step up cooperation in developing critical and emerging technologies to enhance the prosperity and security of the region in areas such as 5G and semiconductors out of concern that dependence on China for critical technologies could pose a threat to economic security. The four counties signed a memorandum of cooperation on 5G Supplier Diversification and Open RAN.

Nikkei added that the Quad leaders also agreed that each Quad partner will endeavor to improve public access to Earth observation satellite data to share space-based civil Earth observation data with nations in the Indo-Pacific to help them address common challenges such as climate change and disaster preparedness.
