All national dailies wrote that Bank of Japan Governor Kuroda Haruhiko retracted his remark that Japanese households’ tolerance of rising prices has been increasing at a Lower House Financial Affairs Committee session on Wednesday by saying he is fully aware that households have no choice but to accept price hikes with utmost reluctance. He apologized for choosing words that were misleading and said he would like to withdraw the remark because it was totally inappropriate. The remark drew criticism that the central bank chief seemed to be unaware of the hardships that consumers have been facing due to higher prices for daily necessities.
