Senior diplomats of U.S., Japan, ROK agree to boost cooperation against North Korea

All national dailies reported on a foreign vice-ministerial meeting held between the United States, Japan, and South Korea in Seoul on Wednesday. The papers wrote that Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mori Takeo, and South Korea’s First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun-dong strongly condemned North Korea’s repeated ballistic missile launches and agreed to further strengthen trilateral security cooperation. Yomiuri noted that the United States expressed its firm commitment to the defense of Japan and South Korea, including through extended deterrence, in the joint statement the three nations released after the meeting.
