All national dailies reported on the start of the WTO ministerial meeting in Geneva on Sunday, saying that the ministers will focus on addressing the food crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and rulemaking to ban subsidies that encourage overfishing. Noting that WTO decisions must be made unanimously in principle, Yomiuri said tough negotiations are expected to follow as the rift between the developed nations and emerging nations remains wide. The daily said WTO Director General Okonjo-Iweala called on WTO member nations to relax export controls to address the food crisis arising from the Ukrainian crisis.
