Japanese, French foreign ministers discuss French commitment to Indo-Pacific

Yomiuri wrote that Foreign Minister Hayashi spoke by phone with his French counterpart Catherine Colonna for about 25 minutes on Tuesday and that the two officials agreed that unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force cannot be accepted anywhere in the world. Hayashi reportedly told Colonna that the security of Europe and the security of the Indo-Pacific are indivisible and welcomed France’s leadership in increasing the EU’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific. This was the first official conversation between the two foreign ministers since Colonna took office in mid-May following President Macron’s re-election in April.
