Mainichi and Yomiuri reported on the Pacific Amphibious Leaders Symposium held in Tokyo on June 13-16. The commanders of the amphibious forces of 18 countries, including the United States and Australia, participated in the event. Lt. Gen. Steven R. Rudder, commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific, and GSDF Chief of Staff Gen. Yoshida Yoshihide held a joint news conference at the GSDF Kisarazu Camp in Chiba Prefecture on Thursday, during which they stressed the solidarity of the United States and Japan and strengthened coordination with the participating forces. Mainichi wrote that this was the first time for Japan to host the symposium and speculated that the participants strengthened their multilateral cooperation with China in mind.
