Nikkei poll: Public approval for Kishida Cabinet drops to 60%

Monday’s Nikkei reported on the results of its opinion survey conducted with TV Tokyo on June 17 to 19, which found that public support for the Kishida Cabinet dropped 5 points from last month to 60%. The paper noted, however, that despite the drop, public approval is still over the 59% recorded in October 2021 when the Kishida Cabinet was launched. Nonsupport was 32%, the highest recorded under the current government. Concerning the increasing prices, 64% of respondents said they are not acceptable, exceeding the 29% who said they are. Public support for the Cabinet among those who said price hikes are not acceptable was 55%. On the BOJ’s monetary-easing measures, 46% said the BOJ should not continue the measures and 36% said the BOJ should continue them. Public support for the LDP was 45%, following by Japan Innovation Party at 8%, and the CDPJ at 7%.
