Mainichi wrote that at its plenary session on Thursday the municipal assembly of Kanoya in Kagoshima Prefecture approved the U.S. military’s plan to temporarily deploy MQ-9 reconnaissance drones at the MSDF Kanoya Air Base. Seventeen assembly members voted for the plan, while five others opposed it. Three did not vote. Mayor Nakanishi said afterward that he will give weight to the assembly’s decision. The U.S. military is planning to deploy eight MQ-9s and around 150 to 200 personnel at the base for one year starting around July.
