Nikkei front-paged a report saying that the Chinese government is planning to expand its national technology standards to place new restrictions on foreign manufacturers of high-tech products. Under the new rules, foreign manufacturers will be required to design, develop, and manufacture their products in China and will be forced to choose between accepting the new rules or withdrawing from the Chinese market. The paper wrote that the new standards are likely to be applied first to office equipment such as printers and multifunction copiers and could be expanded later to cover personal computers and servers.
