On the morning of July 9, two U.S. servicemembers were arrested on separate charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Okinawa Police Station arrested a self-described U.S. Marine Force staff sergeant affiliated with Camp Foster on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol. The staff sergeant is denying the charge by saying he did not drink alcohol. He is charged with driving a motorcycle on Route 330 in Moromizato, Okinawa City, while under the influence of alcohol at more than five times the legal limit (0.15 mg per liter of breath) at around 6:35 a.m on July 9.

The Naha Police Station arrested on the same day a U.S. Army third sergeant affiliated with Torii Station on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). The third sergeant is denying the charge by saying he thought the alcohol had left his system. He is charged with driving a car on a municipal road in Makishi, Naha, while under the influence of alcohol at more than four times the legal limit at around 5:45 a.m.
