Russia wants to hand over bodies of two Japanese tour boat accident victims on Sakhalin

Mainichi, Nikkei, and Sankei wrote that Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara told reporters on Tuesday that Russian authorities have conveyed their wish to hand over the two bodies that washed ashore on Russian-controlled Kunashiri Island after a Japanese tour boat sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido in April. Kihara said that Russia has proposed returning the bodies on Sakhalin. According to the papers, the Russian Foreign Ministry informed the Japanese Embassy in Moscow of its proposal on Monday. Kihara said the government will coordinate with the Russian side to bring the bodies home as soon as possible.
