Ukrainian envoy raps Russia over nuclear terrorism

Tokyo, July 26 (Jiji Press)–Ukrainian Ambassador to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky criticized Russia Tuesday for committing nuclear terrorism during its invasion of Ukraine.

Russia threatened to use nuclear weapons and occupied a nuclear power plant, Korsunsky told a news conference at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo.

He stressed that Japan and Ukraine will work together to warn the world of threats from nuclear weapons at a review conference of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which is slated to start in New York on Monday.

The Ukrainian diplomat said he wants to call for the full abolishment of nuclear weapons at the conference.

The position of Japan, which experienced atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, will be very strong at the meeting, he said.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is slated to attend the NPT review conference.
