Japan calls for quick release of Japanese man detained in Myanmar

NHK reported that concerning the detention of a Japanese man by the security agency in Myanmar on July 30, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara told the press today: “We have confirmed that a Japanese man in his 20s who was filming demonstrations in Yangon was taken into custody by the local police on Saturday… The Japanese Embassy in Myanmar is calling on the authorities to swiftly release the man. We will continue to collect information and call for his early release. We also plan to provide as much support as possible to his family from the viewpoint of protecting Japanese nationals overseas and continue to take appropriate measures.”
