House Speaker Pelosi may visit Taiwan as early as today

All national dailies carried reports that CNN reported on Monday that according to officials of the United States and Taiwan, House Speaker Pelosi is expected to visit Taiwan during her tour of Asia. The papers said several media outlets in Taiwan have reported that she will visit Taiwan this evening and meet with Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen tomorrow. Mainichi said that if the visit is realized, it will be the first time in 25 years for a U.S. house speaker to visit Taiwan, adding that a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson told the press on Monday that if Pelosi visits Taiwan the PLA “will not sit still and watch” and warned of countermeasures. The paper added that according to AP, House Speaker Pelosi arrived in Singapore and met with Prime Minister Lee on Monday and will visit Malaysia today. She is expected to meet with South Korean National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo in Seoul on Thursday morning before visiting Japan.
