Asahi reported that a suprapartisan group of lawmakers on Japan-Taiwan relations led by LDP lawmaker Furuya Keiji met with Taiwanese parliamentarians in Tokyo on Monday. They reportedly agreed to strengthen cooperation between lawmakers in view of the rising tension between China and Taiwan following House Speaker Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. Furuya reportedly said the importance of diplomatic efforts by Diet members will become extremely important as there is no formal diplomatic relationship between Taiwan and Japan. The leader of the Taiwanese group, Kuo Kuo-wen, reportedly expressed hope to deepen relations with Japan.
