A suprapartisan group of parliamentarians “to visit Yasukuni Shrine together” has decided not to make a group visit to the shrine on Aug. 15, the day Japan surrendered in World War II, due to the coronavirus pandemic. This will be the third year in a row for the group to cancel a visit to the shrine on that day. For the shrine’s annual spring festival in April, about 100 members paid a visit there. On Aug. 15, Lower House member Aizawa Ichiro (Liberal Democratic Party), deputy chairman of the group, will pay homage at the shrine on behalf of the group.
