Tokyo, Aug. 11 (Jiji Press)–A Jiji Press opinion poll for August showed Thursday that 45.5 pct of respondents support the government’s scheme of allowing local authorities to issue a declaration for beefing up measures against the BA.5 omicron subvariant of the novel coronavirus.
Meanwhile, 25.3 pct showed opposition to the scheme, which was created in response to the recent surge in new COVID-19 cases across the country.
In the poll, 39.6 pct said they support the government’s COVID-19 measures, down 7.4 percentage points from July, against 36.8 pct who do not support the steps, up 10.9 points.
The proportion of respondents who do not support the government’s measures against higher prices rose 2.1 points to 58.6 pct, far higher than 15.1 pct in support of the steps, down 1.2 points.
The latest survey was conducted for four days until Monday for 2,000 people aged 18 or over nationwide, with 60.0 pct of them giving valid answers.
