All networks reported that South Korean President Yoon delivered a speech at a ceremony in Seoul on Monday to mark the anniversary of the Korean Peninsula’s liberation from Japan’s colonial rule on August 15, 1945. During the speech, President Yoon reportedly stressed the importance of the Japan-ROK relationship, saying: “Today, Japan is our partner as we face common threats that challenge the freedom of global citizens.” NTV said that although the South Korean leader expressed his intention to resolve the bilateral historical issues in a future-oriented manner, he did not propose any concrete measures. He also reportedly said the two governments and the peoples of the two countries need to respect each other. The networks said, however, that Yoon stopped short of mentioning the former requisitioned workers and comfort women.
