All 19 ministers affiliated with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Kishida Fumio launched on Aug. 10 are members of one of the two parliamentary groups which promote visits to Yasukuni Shrine, according to a survey conducted by Shimbun Akahata. The groups are the parliamentary league of Japan Conference (Nippon Kaigi) and the parliamentary league of Shinto Association of Spiritual Leadership. This is the first time for all of the cabinet ministers other than those affiliated with Komeito to be members of the pro-Yasukuni Diet members’ leagues since the fourth cabinet of Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, which was launched in October 2018. Furthermore, seven of the pro-Yasukuni cabinet ministers are connected with the Unification Church (Family Federation for World Peace and Unification), which has been criticized for its “spiritual sales” and other antisocial activities, and other relevant groups.
