At a press conference held after a Cabinet meeting on Sept. 6, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura Yasutoshi touched on the Russian government’s approval of an application by a Japanese firm to take a stake in the Sakhalin-2 oil and natural gas development project in Russia’s Far East. The minister said, “We’ll secure the stable supply of liquified natural gas (LNG) through various medium- to longer-term measures, such as procuring LNG from countries other than Russia and restraining demand.”
