Senior CDPJ officials to boycott Abe’s state funeral

Kyodo reported that CDPJ executives, including President Izumi and Secretary General Okada, have decided not to attend the state funeral for former Prime Minister Abe on the grounds that the Kishida administration has failed to provide a convincing justification for the event. Except for officials from the Japan Innovation Party (Ishin) and the Democratic Party for the People, opposition party officials are likely to abstain from the state-sponsored ceremony.

Meanwhile, Sankei wrote that Prime Minister Kishida told ruling coalition officials yesterday that the administration is committed to making thorough preparations for the state funeral to “respond with courtesy to the expressions of respect and condolences offered by foreign nations.”
