Ryukyu Shimpo and Okinawa Times reported that Sept. 22 marked 3,000 days since citizens protesting the construction of a “new” U.S. base at Henoko, Nago, began their sit-in in front of the gate of Camp Schwab. Okinawa Times wrote that about 140 citizens gathered in front of the gate on Thursday. Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that in light of the ongoing legal battle between the Okinawa and the central government over the soft seabed in Oura Bay, there are no prospects in sight for the completion of the base construction.
