Mainichi wrote that although Prime Minister Kishida has made economic revitalization the top priority for the extraordinary Diet session, the opposition camp plans to grill the Kishida administration over the former Unification Church controversy. The paper said there are no prospects for the issue to be resolved and a tumultuous battle between the ruling and opposition parties is likely to play out during the session. According to the daily, the opposition camp is targeting Economic Revitalization Minister Yamagiwa, whose connections with the religious group were revealed after he was retained in the cabinet reshuffle in August, and Lower House Speaker Hosoda, who failed to provide a sufficient explanation of his links to the group. The paper said the opposition parties plan to raise these politicians’ alleged connections with the religious group at the Diet with the aim of forcing Yamagiwa to step down.
